FAQs- Frequently Asked Questions and Answers 23. When is the hurricane season? The hurricane season runs from June to November every year. Jamaica rarely gets hit, although, being in the Caribbean, it is regarded as a hurricane risk. Jamaica's last direct hit was by Hurricane Gilbert on September 12, 1988. I believe, before that, it was sometime in the 1950s. I was actually in Endless Summer, which is right on the beach at Silver Sands, for Hurricane Gilbert. There was little damage to Endless Summer or the vast majority of houses at Silver Sands. No one at Silver Sands at the time was injured. All of the houses at Silver Sands are built with steel-reinforced concrete blocks and steel-reinforced concrete, designed to withstand hurricane force winds. More recently, September 10 -11, 2004, Hurricane Ivan passed very close to the South Coast of Jamaica. Silver Sands received very little damage.
