FAQs- Frequently Asked Questions and Answers 24. Is there a rainy season? Let me start by saying that we all know the weather is unpredictable, with normal patterns being less observed in recent years. Blame it on El Nino, global warming, or whatever. With that in mind, the wettest months are October and November with May and September following a distant second. Although Jamaica is a small island, there is a lot of regional variation. For example, the parish of Portland is a lot wetter than Trelawny where Silver Sands is located. And visitors to Negril will report that it often rains there in the afternoon. But most of the time, after the rain, the sun comes out again with intensity, and dull grey days are not at all common. My personal experience is that Silver Sands is a very dry area and consequently a windy one (day-time warming attracting the tradewinds). The highest rainfall is by far in October. The hottest months are July and August with the average maximum temperature being 90 degrees Fahrenheit. June and July see the strongest winds, making these two months the best for good windsurfers. Large weather systems over North America often influence Jamaica. For example, if there are terrible snow storms in North America, there's a good chance it will be windy, cooler, and wetter than normal in Jamaica. See our Links page for weather information.
