Hi Prem,
Silver Sands was AWESOME! it was everything I had expected and more. Kamarr villa was lovely and had everything that we needed. Hope and Thelma were the best! Hope did our laundry everyday, and I dont ever want to wash the clothes because they smell like Jamaica and I dont want to lose that. Thelma made some of the best Jamaican food I have ever eaten, and her banana bread was fanatastic! We did not want to leave. Errol took my boyfriend and I out snorkling one morning, but tere wasn't much to see (the North coast is not the best place to snorkle, Negril and the southern coast have a bit more to offer in that department) It was $30 which I thought was a little steep for less than an hour. The beach bar and grill was excellent, and the beach was beautiful and clean everyday.
Although I have heard people complain about the lack of entertainment at Silver Sands, I was pleasently surpised by what was offered. Thursday night they had an excellent reggae band come and play, and on Sunday night they had an authentic Jamaican dance company come and dance, including the fire limbo performer who was awesome. Frankly, I did not care if there was entertainment offered or not because that was not the atmosphere that we cared for, but it was much appreciated, as it offered us a chance to get to know some of the other visitors and year round residents at Silver Sands. Dont come to Silver Sands expecting the "all inclusive treatment" because you wont get it.
Our Silver Sands getaway was something I had researched and planned for about a year and half in advance. It was something that I have wanted to do for a long time, and as long as I live, I will never return to a hotel in Jamaica again. Silver Sands offers all the benefits that a hotel has and more. You are not eating terrible hotel food, you are not forced to share a dirty pool or beach with 500 other guests and you dont have drunk people waking you up in your hotel room at 3am. The villa was very private, and quiet (even though we had neighbors on both sides of us) the pool was great, AC worked great in all the bedrooms. We only lost power once during the day, we were so relaxed we didnt care, and about 2 hours later it came back on.
As far as cost of food: My party was 5 adults we spent a total of $275 US on all food and beverages. Well below what I had planned on spending. We ate well every day, breakfast was eggs, pancakes, fruit, bacon. Lunch was light, tuna sandwhiches, and patties. We ate lobster one night, fish one night, and pork and chicken the rest of the nights. We consumed a decent amount of rum and beer and ting as well and the bill was still cheap. We ate lunch twice down at the beach grill (fantastic jerk chicken sandwiches!). And we walked down to the villa mart (very nice and convienient) and bought some snacks a few times.
This trip was the first trip that I have had in a very long time where I was completely relaxed. My brain wouldnt allow me to think about anything important. Our days revolved around our eating schedule. We only went down to the beach because we wanted the ladies to have space to clean up from breakfast and then make our lunch. We hung out outside around the pool so the ladies could make dinner, I know it sounds like we were a bunch of pigs...but it was great!
Also, transportation was ok...the day of our departure the driver had a flat tire ( no surpise in Jamaica, but the new roads are excellent) on the way to the villa to pick us up so he was a little late, but we made it to the airport just fine, and we really didnt care because we didnt want to leave! Laschelles was a great driver and always on time.
I will never ever ever go back to a hotel again, it just makes no sense financially, or "vacation" wise. Silver Sands has everything we could ever ask for. And I am already planning our next trip for summer 2007. Thank you so much for your excellent website, and all of your help. Dont stop what your doing. See you next summer Silver Sands!!!
