Hi Prem!!
Today's my first day back to work and I'm having a difficult time concentrating. We just concluded our 3rd trip to Silver Sands and once again we were not disappointed. We stayed 7 nights in Sea Spray and moved for the last 2 nights to Day O. We thank you and Angela for graciously accommodating our request to move to another Villa since Sea Spray wasn't available for our full vacation period. Angela was soooo terrific, as usual. She took us around in her private car to see 4 other Villas that we could choose from. It was so enjoyable to check out the different ones. My boys (aged 9 & 11) fell in love at first sight with the pool and the giant screen TV at Day O. So that was a quick decision.
Sea Spray
Probably the best out of the 3 villas we have stayed at for accommodating a variety of "wants". The location to the beach is simply the best. The pool was great; even after my boys swam in the ocean for many hours, they came back to swim in the pool. Some of the days were quite windy, and the pool deck was a perfect spot to break up the wind and really appreciate the sun rays. The outdoor sitting and dining is always a plus in that lovely environment and we were not disappointed. The beds were extremely comfortable, and the sound of the sea in the master bedroom was very well defined and lulled us to sleep each and every night. There's nothing quite like waking up -- realizing with a smile where you are, and falling back in to an instant slumber for "just a few more minutes". Daphne and Lettice were delightful. We took them with us on a trip to Browns Town which was a very special treat for both of them. The ride there was really picturesque. Daphne was surprised to find food prices were not that much better than those in Duncans or Falmouth. So I'm not sure I would make the trip again just to save on food prices, but it was a great experience overall.
Day O
I have a feeling that Marcy is one of the special cooks on board at Silver Sands. We went there with a bare minimum of leftover supplies from Sea Spray and she managed to make wonderful meals and used up everything. I would have loved to taste more of her cooking! I was very enchanted by Dwight who works on the beautiful garden. The yard there is sooo large, and the boys made up a new "soccer-type" game with a tennis ball that they want to patent!! (They even named it -- which I can't recall what it was at the moment....) At least we talked about the plans to patent the new outdoor game all along our walk to Fisherman's beach. Just being in that environment puts everyone in an exceptional "I love life" kind of mood.
Activities
Fishermans Beach is getting better and better. We see Leroy has completely remodeled and even has indoor plumbing!! It was great to see all of our favorite artists and meet a few new ones.
Glistening waters is always a treat with Jerry -- and I highly recommend it to any guest that goes -- take your cook and maid with you! This go around, we enjoyed the trip with our cook from last year (Angela from Queen's Cottage) and her current guests so that was a very special treat.
Martha Brae River was a wonderfully relaxing journey. It's very near Silver Sands and the trip is just long enough. I would probably enjoy doing this one once again as well.
Bend down market in Falmouth -- this is the 2nd year I went with Angela (from Queens Cottage) and it was really fun. My husband was a bit dismayed that my son's choice of souvenir was a pair of Reebok tennis shoes....but they were 50% of the cost versus home. (Per Ted -- "you don't go to Jamaica to buy tennis shoes!") And I just LOVE to bargain for things so that market is especially fun for me.
The People
We were so thrilled to see all the faces that we have come to befriend over the years: Kelly & Roswell at the bar, Angela in the office, Angela & Gloria from Queens Cottage, Roy & David on the beach and all the artists at Fisherman's beach. We are so warmly and sincerely welcomed by each and every one upon our return and I don't think that is something easy to come by on any vacation. We also chatted with Damiente and Eas on a number of occasions. We met them during our first visit 3 years ago and they were such lovely people and not people that you would easily forget. After a few tid-bits of info, Damiente did in fact remember us as well. We also met many of the guests from Canada, Minnesota, Pennsylvania and even "Uppers" from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Now being fellow Michiganders that was quite the pleasant surprise. They were staying in Duncans' Bay, but once we showed them Sea Spray -- I introduced Dennis to Angela and I think he's booking a trip for March for him and his girl friend. So we continue to recommend your place even while we are there!!!
So I have shared with you the highlights of our trip. I have already figured out how much I need to put away in savings each month in order to be able to enjoy another trip next year. Now we just have to pick a house!! I know I have my favorite, but I think a special part of the journey is trying out a new villa and meeting the nice ladies who work there. The more times we visit, the more things we learn, and it's a wonderful experience for the kids and Ted and I each and every time. Keep Silver Sands the same, "keep it real" as I heard one of the guests we met describe it. Our thanks to all the workers at Silver Sands for making another vacation that will always be a sweet memory to dwell upon for each of us. (Especially when we returned to 7 inches of snow in Michigan!!!). All the best to you and your family Prem.
